Donny van de Beek is set to leave Manchester United on loan in January and Barcelona are ready to make their move.

Van de Beek has started just four Premier League games since arriving from Ajax in a £35 million deal in 2020.

The 24-year-old regularly cuts a forlorn figure on the bench and he's way down the midfield pecking order.

Spanish publication SPORT claim Barcelona want to sign van de Beek in January but can only afford a loan deal.

Barcelona are in deep financial crisis right now and sacked manager Ronald Koeman last week after a poor start to the season.

They sit ninth in La Liga after 11 games and are desperate for more attacking guile in midfield.

Van de Beek scored 41 goals and provided 34 assists in 175 appearances for Ajax, while also scoring on his United debut last September.

He'll also be reunited for former Ajax teammates Frenkie de Jong and Sergino Dest, with the former also being a Netherlands international teammate.

Van de Beek is said to have hired a new agent in recent weeks in hope of sealing a move away from Old Trafford.

He had been paired with Guido Albers but is now working alongside Ali Dursun.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted van de Beek has not been frozen out of his side despite the lack of minutes.

He told reporters per The Guardian: "He knows he is not frozen out.

"It's Man United and when a headline player is not playing for Man United, it is always going to make headlines.

"I've got plenty of them every week that don't play, so I don't have any issues with Donny; he knows what he needs to work on, what we want him to work on.

"He is diligent in his work and he has never ever let his mood affect his team and teammates negatively. You have to have that fire in your belly if you're going to make it."
