Joao Felix was asked to 'injure' Atletico Madrid teammate Antoine Griezmann during a live interview and he looked incredibly confused.

Griezmann returned to Atletico on deadline day after spending two seasons with La Liga rivals Barcelona.

The way he left Los Colchoneros in 2019 still lingers and many aren't ready to accept Griezmann again - with one fan taking it to extreme lengths.

Felix was signed as Griezmann's replacement and when he arrived at training on Thursday, he was told: "Joao, step on Griezmann, you have to injure him, it can't be that he starts before you."

The 21-year-old's expression changes and he can be seen pointing at the fan before saying: "You should have more respect for Griezmann."

Felix started Wednesday's 0-0 draw with Porto in the Champions League and was replaced by Griezmann in the second half.

It was the France international's first game back at the Wanda Metropolitano and he was jeered onto the pitch.

This came after supporters booed his name being read out prior to kick-off.

Eduardo Fernandez, president of the Atletico de Madrid International Penas Union, told L'Equipe ahead of Wednesday's clash that Griezmann has a long way to go to win back fan support.

Per Tribal Football he stated: "A part of the public will whistle and insult him, that's for sure. When his name is announced and as soon as he touches the ball.

"There is a disenchantment. Before, he was our idol. Now he's just a player like any other. He doesn't represent much anymore. His image has seriously deteriorated.

"We're all still hurt by what he did. Time is going to see our pain heal. He will have to regain our trust and our love.

"It is up to him to be forgiven and to redeem himself. How? 'Or' What ? By sweating the jersey and scoring. When he sets important goals, little by little things will get back to normal. Because he can once again become the great player he was, I am convinced."

Meanwhile, manager Diego Simeone has jumped to defend Griezmann despite his controversial departure.

Simeone won the Europa League with the 30-year-old as his main attacker and the duo enjoyed five years working together.

"They (the media) are making a movie and a morbid situation that clearly gives us the importance of having recovered an extraordinary footballer like him and that we can enjoy," the Argentine explained to Sport.

"We hope that he gets better and can respond to the people that criticise him.

"He has a challenge to move forward and consequences for what happened in the past."
