Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly turned down the chance to return to management with French side Monaco.

The Argentine has been out of work since being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur and replaced with Jose Mourinho in November.

Many clubs have shown interest in the 48-year-old but The Athletic have claimed Monaco recently made an approach after parting ways with Robert Moreno.

Paul Mitchell is the new sporting director at the Ligue 1 side and hoped to bring Pochettino in after working with him at Southampton and Spurs previously.

However, he reportedly rejected the offer as he wants to take his time before returning to the dugout.

He had previously been linked with the Manchester United job when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked on the ropes, but United look to have turned a corner under the Norweigan.

Juventus and Inter Milan have also shown interest in recent weeks per reports, while Portuguese side Benfica were also said to be planning an ambitious swoop.

Pochettino's time at Spurs helped establish the North London side as a top four side while also taking them to last season's Champions League final.

But his time at the club ended on a sour note as they languished in 14th place after a torrid start to the campaign.

Meanwhile, Monaco have announced Niko Kovac as their new manager following Moreno's dismissal after seven months at the helm.

"We are very happy to welcome Niko Kovac to the Club," vice-president Oleg Petrov said in a statement. "This season marks the start of a new chapter for AS Monaco, with a defined sporting plan in line with the club's objectives.

"This direction will be embodied by Niko as coach. Niko is recognized for his work both for the national team and his work in club environments, in the development of young talent, the management of experienced players and the ability to achieve very good results.

"I'm convinced that his experience and personality will help us achieve our goals."

Kovac is best known for his time in the hotseat at Bayern Munich as well as Eintracht Frankfurt.
