Monaco right-back Ruben Aguilar was caught on camera lashing out at a VAR monitor after being handed a red card during his side's 1-0 defeat to Saint-Étienne last night.

The incident began midway through the second half, when Saint-Étienne defender Wesley Fofana was shown a red card for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, only for the VAR to not only overturn the decision after claiming that Monaco's Jean-Kévin Augustin was offside in the build-up instead.

And if that wasn't bad enough, Monaco's Aguilar was later shown a straight red for a similar incident not 20 minutes later, being dismissed as his side chased an equalizer in the 92nd minute.

As he made his way down the tunnel something snapped in Aguilar and he lashed out furiously at the VAR machine, which provoked a round of cheers from the home side.

The whole incident was caught on camera by a fan, which you can view below:

Aguilar has already been sent off twice in nine appearances since signing for Monaco from Montpelier in August, and is now due for another spell on the sidelines.

The incident was the latest in a series of setbacks for Monaco, who currently sit 15th in the table in Ligue 1, just three points off the relegation zone.

They are currently 12 points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain and have a lot of work to do to recapture their winning ways.

Despite being crowned champions of Ligue 1 in 2016-17 Monaco have struggled to maintain their previous form, slumping to 17th the following season and carrying on their run of poor form.

The team invested heavily in new talent during the summer, signing Wissam Ben Yedder, Henry Onyekuru and the aforementioned Aguilar, but it appears that it has done little to reverse their downward spiral.

Rumours persist that Monaco are looking to sign Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaquiri in January in a last-ditch attempt to reverse their fortunes, but whether it will end up being too little too late remains to be seen.
