Mesut Ozil Has His Say On Germany's Humiliating 6-0 Defeat To Spain

Mesut Ozil has reacted to Germany's 6-0 defeat to Spain in the Nations League - hinting Jerome Boateng should be recalled.

Joachim Low's side were thrashed on Tuesday night and looked shambolic in defence, even with Manuel Neuer in goal.

Niklas Sule and Robin Koch started the game and Jonathan Tah replaced Sule in the second half.

But Ozil thinks there is a simple way to shore up the defence - bring Boateng back into the fold.

"Time to take @JeromeBoateng back," the 32-year-old tweeted while directing his message to the German national team.

It was confirmed last year that the experienced trio of Boateng, Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller would no longer feature for the national team.

All three men were part of 2014's World Cup winning side, but Low believed it was time for some new faces.

He explained: "2019 is a new beginning for the Germany national team. It was important for me to personally explain my decision to the players and the FC Bayern management."

"Now it's time to set the course for the future. We want to give the team a new look. I am convinced that this is the right step. The youngsters coming through will have the room they need to grow. Now it's up to them to take on responsibility."

Ozil, meanwhile, retired from international duty in 2018 and cited unfair discrimination as reason for his decision.

The Arsenal man had been criticised for meeting with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier in the year.

Spain took the lead this evening thanks to an Alvaro Morata header, with the Juventus man beating Serge Gnabry in the air.

Ferran Torres got his first goal of the evening just after the half hour mark before Rodri grabbed a third.

It could have gone wrong for Luis Enrique's side, as captain Sergio Ramos went off with an injury just before half time.

But it didn't matter and a lot of that is down to 20-year-old Torres.

The winger slotted home his second and third of the game in the second half before Mikel Oyarzabal completed the rout in the 89th minute.

It rivals Germany's heaviest ever competitive defeat and it's an evening to forget for Neuer especially, who became his country's most-capped goalkeeper of all time.
