Son Heung-min and Gareth Bale's Europa League goal celebration was reportedly dedicated to a paediatric cancer patient.

Both players netted in Tottenham's 4-1 win over Wolfsberger in the first leg of their last-32 tie on Thursday night. Bale crossed for Son to head in the game's opener, while the Welsh winger produced a vintage solo goal to make it 2-0.

The pair joined forces in the celebration as well, each creating a distinctive 'W' shape with their hands.

It's now being reported that the celebration was a tribute to a young cancer patient, who South Korea international Son once visited in hospital.

The pair were photographed creating the 'W' together in honour of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the charity that helps fulfil the wishes of children with a critical illness. Often this comes in the form of meeting their sporting heroes in person.

As Bale and Son replicated the pose during the Spurs victory, it seems fairly clear what the goal celebration was referencing.

After the victory in Hungary, Son expanded on how much he likes playing alongside Bale.

"I have a really close relationship with him,' Son explained. "I'm very happy he's getting game time and scored a goal and got an assist. I really enjoy playing with him."

Bale, meanwhile, was glad to show his attacking skills after struggling to gain a place in Jose Mourinho's starting XI following his return from Real Madrid earlier in the season.

"We had the mindset of coming to score as many goals as we could and get some confidence," Bale said per the Daily Mail.

"Obviously we haven't won many lately so it's important to get a win to breed confidence. Hopefully, this is the start of a good run.

"It was good [to score]. I just chopped inside and hit it. It's nice to get on the scoresheet to help the team.

"It's good to get four away goals. It's always good to win a game by that margin. We'll take the second leg like it's 0-0."
