Chelsea's German international had an absolute howler after Frank Lampard brought him off the bench against Fulham.

Chelsea's £63 million striker Timo Werner produced a disastrous substitute performance in the Blues 1-0 win over local rivals Fulham on Saturday.

The Chelsea No 11 has now failed to score in his last 10 Premier League games and was absent from the starting line-up at Craven Cottage. However Frank Lampard brought Werner on with 15 minutes to go - and perhaps wished he hadn't.

Werner put wide a great chance when clean through on Fulham's goal. But his wayward finishing was complemented by dire touches, poor movement and misplaced passes - as the 'highlights' shared on Twitter show.

It's easy to feel sympathy for the 24-year-old Germany international, as he's clearly out of form and lacking the confidence all forwards need.

Taking on a 10-man Fulham side who spent the end of the game pushing for an equaliser, there was naturally plenty of space to exploit on the break.

But not only could Werner not help himself to a goal, he couldn't help his teammates much either as his link-up play went seriously wrong.

Chelsea still won the game 1-0 thanks to Mason Mount's fine half-volley. However Lampard admitted he was "not blown away" as the Blues struggled to put away a Fulham side playing with 10 men for the entire second half following Antonee Robinson's red card.

And substitute Werner is certainly looking a far cry from the deadly finisher who netted 28 goals in 34 Bundesliga games last season for RB Leipzig. Or even the player who looked lively at the start of his Chelsea career, netting four league goals in his first eight league matches.

They say form is temporary, class is permanent - and Werner is definitely a far classier player than he showed in this display against Fulham.

But the worry - for Chelsea fans, Lampard and the player himself - is that his performances seem to be getting worse by the week at a time when he should be settling in and improving.
