Anthony Gordon embarrassed as fans spot what he did seconds before Mo Salah penalty

Anthony Gordon embarrassed as fans spot what he did seconds before Mo Salah penalty

Newcastle United were beaten by Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night

An embarrassing moment involving Anthony Gordon was spotted during Newcastle United’s defeat by Liverpool on Monday night.

Under the lights at Anfield, Liverpool eventually proved too good for Newcastle as goals from Curtis Jones, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah sealed a 4-2 win for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

However, Newcastle were left unhappy with the late penalty that was awarded to Liverpool after Diogo Jota went down theatrically.

Former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer showed his displeasure on social media.

The penalty was dispatched by Salah, who sent Magpies goalkeeper Martin Dubravka the wrong way.

After the match, a clip involving Newcastle winger Gordon went viral.

The former Everton forward was seen pointing to his right as he tried to give Dubravka a clue as to which direction Salah’s penalty would go.

However, to Gordon’s embarrassment, Salah dispatched his penalty in the other direction.

Speaking about Salah after the match, Reds boss Klopp said: “Nobody should be now really surprised that Mo can change a game, can improve in a game and all these kinds of things, because he did it just hundreds of times.

“But it’s just a really good example; the more goals you have, the more you are used to missing chances, even when it’s a penalty. And the more you just understand what you have to do: keep going and if necessary – which is very often the case – keep improving, using situations better. And that’s what Mo did.”

He continued: “Super game, from start to finish, with 10 minutes in the first half, I would say, after 35 minutes – disallowed goal, missed a pen, super-high intensity, level dropped slightly. Got into the second half and started pretty much there where we finished after 35 minutes.

“Obviously again a really good game from start to finish and again if you have these options to bring on, that’s obviously pretty helpful. I loved the game, I loved the atmosphere, everything was perfect besides the goals obviously conceded; we could see that on Ali [Alisson Becker]’s face especially, he didn’t like that fact. But we take that for tonight and keep going.”
