Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus posts injury update on Instagram

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus posts injury update on Instagram

Jesus has dropped an update on his recovery.

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has posted a one-word injury update on Instagram ahead of the Gunners' opening fixture against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Prior to Arsenal's penalty shootout win against Monaco in the Emirates Cup final, it was revealed that Jesus had suffered a knee injury.

Speaking after the game, Mikel Arteta explained: “He had a little procedure this morning, he’s injured unfortunately.

“He’s had some discomfort in his knee that caused him some issues so they had to go in.”

He added: “He’s going to be out for a few weeks.”

Jesus has since taken to Instagram to give fans an insight into his recovery, posting a picture of himself wearing a knee brace.

The 26-year-old simply captioned the image: "Working..." accompanied by a praying and bicep emojis.

His post comes just a day after he told reporters that his injury was "all good" following Arsenal's penalty shootout victory over Manchester city in the Community Shield final.

Dom Smith of the Evening Standard tweeted on Monday: "Gabriel Jesus, limping just a tiny bit, walks past. “All good”, he replies when asked how his recovery is going from the knee injury which Arteta says is not as bad as first feared. Positive sign."

It would seem very unlikely that Jesus will be in contention to play against Forest on Saturday, but his update will give fans some encouragement.

In his absence, Kai Havertz may be handed the No. 9 role, just as he was against Manchester City on Sunday.

The 24-year-old, who moved to the Emirates from Chelsea in a deal worth a reported £65 million, regularly played up front for the Blues last season, but managed just seven goals in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, both Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun are available to Arteta, although the latter has been heavily rumoured with a move away this summer, with Inter Milan among the clubs interested in signing him.
