Tottenham threaten to hijack Arsenal move for £43m striker Mikel Arteta wants in January transfer window

The north London rivals look set to battle it out for his signature.

Tottenham and Arsenal look set to lock horns in the January transfer window, as the north London rivals battle it out for Santiago Gimenez's signature.

The Feyenoord striker has been on fire this season and sits joint top of the goalscoring charts in the Eredivise after netting 13 goals for his club, including a hat-trick against Ajax.

While he opened his Champions League account during a 3-1 win over Lazio on Wednesday, scoring a brace to ensure Feyenoord went top of Group E.

And Giminez's form has caught the attention of Mikel Arteta, with the Gunners reportedly plotting a January move for the 22-year-old.

Arsenal's need for a new No. 9 is no secret, with Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who is currently serving a ban for breaching betting rules, heavily linked with a move to the Emirates in January.

However, the Bees are thought to want £80 million for their prized asset, with Giminez a far cheaper alternative.

According to Italian outlet TV Play, Feyenoord could request between €45 million and €50 million for the Mexico international, which would work out to be half of what they would need to pay to land Toney.

Giminez has scored 15 goals in 11 appearances so far this season.

The report also details Tottenham's 'great interest' in Giminez, who could look to hijack Arsenal's move for the forward.

Having sold Harry Kane to Bayern Munich over the summer, Ange Postecoglou is still on the hunt for a top class centre-forward, despite signing Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest for a reported £47.5 million.

While Richarlison has only managed one Premier League goal this season.

The publication claims that both London clubs are following "Gimenez with great attention and both are willing to accommodate the Rotterdam club's requests."
