Victor Lindelof hailed for his leadership.

Victor Lindelof has been praised for his actions during the abandonment of Belgium vs Sweden last night.

The Euro 2024 qualifier between Belgium vs Sweden was abandoned at half-time following the tragic shooting in Brussels.

Two people wearing Swedish football shirts were shot dead by a gunman, who was killed near a cafe in the Schaerbeek neighbourhood.

The incident took place prior to Belgium vs Sweden as the fixture played out the first-half before being suspended at the break.

With the score 1-1, Belgium and Sweden players decided they did not want to continue the match because of the shooting that had taken place before kick-off.

Players and officials were told at half-time as Sweden captain and Manchester United defender Lindelof said security put the team "at ease".

He said: "They explained that this is the safest place to be in Brussels."

Lindelof also said he saw "no reason" to replay the game as Belgium have already secured their spot for Euro 2024 and Sweden can no longer qualify for next summer's tournament.

The 29-year-old was hailed for his role in suspending the game as Henry Winter praised his leadership and swift decision-making.

Swedish Football Federation chairman Fredrik Reinfeldt added: "What happened is a disgusting attack on innocent people who were going to a football match. We all feel enormous anger and sadness."

The Metropolitan Police have reassured fans ahead of England's Euro 2024 against Italy at Wembley Stadium.

They said: "Given the events yesterday in Brussels, those attending the match can be reassured that they will see a highly visible policing presence.

"Officers are there to ensure the event passes off safely and provide reassurance to those attending."
