The fourth round of the Carabao Cup is currently ongoing, with Manchester United and Arsenal among the teams in action. But why is VAR not being used?

Chelsea and Liverpool are among the other teams in action, while Middlesbrough and Port Vale were winners on Tuesday night.

One notable absence for the early rounds of the competition is VAR - a fact that was brought up after an incident in the West Ham vs Arsenal game.
The Hammers opened the scoring in the first half through a Ben White own goal from a corner, but questions were raised over a potential foul on goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in the build-up.
However, VAR could not be consulted to overturn the decision as it is not in use.

The EFL has agreed that the technology will not be used in the Carabao Cup, as it wants to ensure that each team is on a level playing field.
Not all EFL grounds, particularly those in Leagues One and Two, can accommodate the technology required for VAR to be in use, and it is not used during league matches in any of the three divisions below the Premier League.
When it comes to the later rounds, VAR will be introduced for the two-legged semi-finals and the final, which will take place at Wembley.
If an EFL side, such as League One side Port Vale, get through to the semi-finals, the technology will be temporarily installed at the required stadium.
