Borussia Dortmund's manager had Premier League job that no-one remembers

Borussia Dortmund's manager had Premier League job that no-one remembers

The Dortmund boss worked in England for over two years.

Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic once had a job in the Premier League that nobody remembers.

On Tuesday evening Borussia Dortmund produced one of the shocks of the season by eliminating Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

PSG were heavy favourites to progress to the final at Wembley next month, with Kylian Mbappe looking to win the competition for the first time before leaving the club this summer.

Not even a 1-0 Dortmund win in the first leg last week changed that expectation, but the Bundesliga side were able to replicate that scoreline at the Parc des Princes to claim a 2-0 aggregate victory and a place in the final for the first time since 2013.

It has been a difficult season for BVB, who currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga table and 24 points behind champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Though performances and results have been inconsistent across an entire league campaign, manager Edin Terzic has built a side well-suited to knockout football that can beat any opponent on its day.

Terzic began his second spell as manager in the summer of 2022, having served as interim boss in the second half of the 2020-21 campaign.

The 41-year-old spent his playing career in Germany's lower leagues, and after retiring in 2013 embarked on his coaching journey.

Dortmund is the only club Terzic has ever managed, but few people remember that he spent two years as a coach in the Premier League with West Ham.

Terzic worked as a scout for Dortmund in the final years of his playing career, but upon retiring in 2013 he turned down a coaching role with the club in favour of becoming Slaven Bilic's assistant coach at Turkish giants Besiktas.

The German then followed Bilic to West Ham in 2015, where he worked until the Croatian manager was sacked in 2017.

In 2018 Terzic gained his UEFA Pro coaching license, before becoming an assistant at Dortmund and spending a year as technical director.

Few will have expected it, but West Ham could soon count a Champions League-winning manager among their coaching alumni.
