Furious Bayern Munich star references Cristiano Ronaldo in rant about the officials after Real Madrid defeat

A Bayern Munich star dropped an unexpected Cristiano Ronaldo reference during a furious rant following defeat to Real Madrid.

On Wednesday Real Madrid produced yet another stunning comeback to beat Bayern Munich and reach a record-extending 19th Champions League final.

The two European giants played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in the first leg of the semi-final tie last week, and Bayern looked set to win the second leg 1-0 thanks to Alphonso Davies' rocket.

However, Madrid substitute Joselu turned the game on its head with two late goals to give his side a 4-3 aggregate victory.

The final moments of injury-time were marred by controversy as Bayern were denied what appeared to be a legitimate equaliser by a premature offside call.

Noussair Mazraoui was judged to be offside in the build-up to Matthijs de Ligt's 'goal', but VAR could not review the incident as referee Szymon Marciniak had already blown his whistle to stop play.

Bayern were left fuming as replays appeared to show that Mazraoui was onside.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel slammed the officials after the match, as did veteran attacker Thomas Muller.

The German World Cup winner was brought off the bench with Bayern leading late on, but could do nothing to prevent Madrid from snatching victory.

"Marciniak? He did not watch the video. He did not give himself the opportunity to look at it," Muller said, via RMC Sport.

"It's really strange, in such a situation, to whistle so fast. This often happens here in Madrid.

"I experienced this a few years ago, with two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo. But it was before the VAR."

The incidents Muller referred to occurred in the second leg of a Champions League quarter-final tie in 2016-17, which saw Real Madrid beat Bayern 4-2 after extra-time at the Bernabeu to secure a 6-3 aggregate win.

Ronaldo scored twice in extra-time to send Madrid on their way, but replays showed that both goals should have been disallowed for offside.

VAR had not been introduced in European competition at the time, so the on-field decisions were final.

Video technology was brought in to prevent incidents like that happening again, but as was the case on Wednesday, human error can still have a huge impact.
