Chelsea need offer worth ‘dizzying amount’ to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen

Chelsea will need to make an "immoral" offer if they want to sign Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong this summer, according to reports.

So far, Mauricio Pochettino's side have spent around £344 million on transfers during this summer's window as Todd Boehly and his ownership team continue to back the Argentine manager.

Moises Caicedo has joined the ranks at Stamford Bridge from Brighton for a British record £115 million, while Romeo Lavia and Axel Disasi have signed for a combined total of £96.8 million.

Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson and Lesley Ugochukwu have also arrived for hefty fees, not to mention Brazilian duo Deivid Washington and Angelo from Santos for a reported £26 million.

But despite the recent additions, Chelsea are reportedly looking for defensive reinforcements after full-back Reece James was ruled out for a few weeks with a hamstring injury suffered in training.

A transfer target that has emerged in recent days is Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong.

Spanish publication Fichajes say the Blues are interested in Frimpong and are exploring whether they want to make a move, but it appears the Bundesliga side will be tough negotiators.

In fact, a report from German outlet Frankfurter Rundschau claim Leverkusen will keep hold of the Dutch international unless there's an "immoral offer at a dizzying amount."

Earlier this month, fellow Premier League club Manchester United held positive talks with Frimpong.

That's according to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, who claimed that Frimpong’s agent, Jeffrey Lemmert, had held “very positive” discussions with United.

Plettenberg added that Ten Hag “admires the player” with Frimpong “open” to leaving Leverkusen in the coming months.

“Talks between [Frimpong’s] agent Jeffrey Lemmert and Man Utd have started," he tweeted. “1st round [of talks] was very positive. Ten Hag admires the player.

“Frimpong is open to [leaving] Leverkusen in the summer. Contract until 2025.”
