Chelsea make embarrassing Caicedo error on club website after confirming new number

Chelsea make embarrassing Caicedo error on club website after confirming new number

Caicedo has officially made the move to Stamford Bridge

Fans have spotted an error on Chelsea's website after the club confirmed Moises Caicedo's new squad number.

Caicedo completed his £115 million move from Brighton to Chelsea on Monday, putting pen to paper on an eight-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old snubbed Premier League rivals Liverpool in the process, confirming that he only wanted to join Chelsea despite having a medical scheduled with the Merseyside outfit.

The Blues have since confirmed that he will wear the No. 25 shirt, just as he did for Brighton, famously last worn by Gianfranco Zola at Chelsea.

Caicedo explained that he spoke with Zola recently to ask for the Italian's permission to take the shirt.

"I'm so proud to wear this number," Caicedo told Chelsea's website. "I spoke with Gianfranco Zola and he gave me his blessing."

Zola responded with a heartfelt message which read: "Hi Moises! Thank you for the message. I hope it will bring to you as many pleasures as it brought to me.

"Good luck, Gianfranco."

Meanwhile, Caicedo attributed the number to his family. "I know how much this number means," he added. "I chose it because it is a very special number to me and my family.

"I want to create a lot of memories for Chelsea with this number on my back!"

However, eagle-eyed supporters spotted an error on Chelsea's website, which claimed Caicedo was from Senegal as opposed to his native country of Ecuador.

A sentence read: "He took the no.23 shirt for Senegal at the 2022 Qatar World Cup." The error has since been amended on the website, with Senegal rightfully changed to Ecuador.

Speaking on his move to Chelsea earlier in the week, Caicedo told the club website: "I am so happy to join Chelsea! I am so excited to be here at this big club and I didn’t have to think twice when Chelsea called me, I just knew I wanted to sign for the club. It’s a dream come true to be here and I can’t wait to get started with the team."
