Sporting CP wore CR7-branded shirts in a tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo

Sporting CP wore a special kit sponsored by Cristiano Ronaldo's CR7 brand in their game against Famalicao last Sunday.

Sporting beat Famalicao 1-0 in their Primeira Liga match, with the players paying homage to the club's former superstar forward.

They wore a strip with the CR7 brand in place of the Nike logo in tribute to the ex-Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus man.

The black and gold kit comes emblazoned with CR7 as the shirt commemorates 20 years at the Estadio Jose Alvalade - Ronaldo's last match for the team.

After spending nearly 50 years at their previous home, Sporting moved to their new stadium adjacent to the previous ground in 2003.

The first game held at the Estadio Jose Alvalade would see Sporting face Man United, who had just won the Premier League title.

Ronaldo famously announced himself to the football world with a scintillating performance that impressed Sir Alex Ferguson, who wasted no time in snapping up the then-budding 18-year-old starlet.

In homage to Ronaldo's showing that day, the club wore a shirt with his CR7 brand printed on them.

On X, the club wrote: "Travel back in time with us.

"6th of August 2003 to the 6th of August 2023. 20 years of Estadio Jose Alvalade and five Ballon d'Ors later, the best in the world are united in one piece.

"20 stories to tell. Sporting, Cristiano and Nike together in our new shirt."

The CR7-branded shirt will be worn by Sporting in the 2023/24 campaign.

Ronaldo spent just one season in Portugal before moving to Man United, where he became a superstar, winning the three Premier League titles and the Champions League, among other trophies.

He also won his first Ballon d'Or during his time at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo signed for Real Madrid in 2009 as he helped the La Liga giants to four Champions League titles during his time at the club and won a further four Ballon d'Or awards.

He switched to Juventus before returning to Man United, signing for Al Nassr in January.
