An Everton fan says they are being punished because the Premier League doesn't want them to be the 'new Manchester City'.

Everton have been hit with a 10 point deduction for breaching financial fair play rules.

The Toffees now have just four points to their name and occupy a spot in the relegation zone ahead of resuming their campaign against Manchester United on November 26.

FOUR clubs are set to take legal against Everton as they plan to sue for £300 million.

Needless to say, the points deduction hasn't gone down well among Everton fans, with one supporter coming up with a theory as to why they were punished so heavily.

A supporter jumped on X Spaces and claimed they were being punished as the Premier League doesn't want Everton to be the 'new Man City'. Check it out below:

The fan referenced their new stadium at Bramley Moore and said they could become the 'new Man City'.

He suggested an investor would be interested in purchasing the club to go head-to-head with cross-town rivals Liverpool.

But the person claims the Premier League doesn't want that from happening hence the points deduction.

The decision to sanction Everton 'shocked' the club as they released a strongly-worded statement following the ruling.

"Everton Football Club is both shocked and disappointed by the ruling of the Premier League’s Commission," the statement read.

"The Club believes that the Commission has imposed a wholly disproportionate and unjust sporting sanction. The Club has already communicated its intention to appeal the decision to the Premier League.

"The appeal process will now commence and the Club’s case will be heard by an Appeal Board appointed pursuant to the Premier League’s rules in due course.

"Everton maintains that it has been open and transparent in the information it has provided to the Premier League and that it has always respected the integrity of the process. The Club does not recognise the finding that it failed to act with the utmost good faith and it does not understand this to have been an allegation made by the Premier League during the course of proceedings. Both the harshness and severity of the sanction imposed by the Commission are neither a fair nor a reasonable reflection of the evidence submitted.

"The Club will also monitor with great interest the decisions made in any other cases concerning the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules."
