Trent Alexander Arnold’s previous comment about his midfield role has come back to bite him after Bournemouth’s opening goal against Liverpool.
Last weekend, Liverpool and Chelsea played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge to kick-off their 23/24 Premier League campaign.
On Saturday afternoon, Liverpool host the Cherries for their first home Premier League match of the season.
However, the Reds endured a horrible start after they fell behind Antoine Semenyo’s goal in the third minute.

For the goal, Alexander Arnold lost the ball in the middle of the park which let Bournemouth in.
After the goal, Alexander Arnold’s comment from last week has aged very badly.
He said after the Chelsea match: “I can control the game more from the middle of the pitch.”
Since the back end of last season, Alexander Arnold has been deployed in a different role to the traditional right back role that he has been playing since he broke through to the first team under Jurgen Klopp.

In his new role, Alexander Arnold can often be seen further up the pitch and operating in the middle of the park instead of wide on the right.
Speaking about his positonal change, the 24-year-old previously said: “It’s clear to see I enjoy playing there. Since the transition, it’s brought the best out of me.
“There’s a lot of work that’s gone into it and a lot more needs to happen to iron out the creases. But we’re excited as a team to start in this system, making it work with new players and adapting to it.”
He added: “This role is something that will bring the best out of me, whether it’s starting in there or transitioning into those areas when in possession. For me it’s just getting in those areas to control the game, impact the game and help the team win. I’ve never been shy of what my ambitions are… to captain this club. This is a stepping stone to that.
