Ex-Liverpool wonderkid released by non-league side after just one appearance since October, he's still only 28

The former Liverpool player has endured a tough time since leaving Anfield.

A former Liverpool wonderkid has been released by a non-league club after making just one appearance since October.

Back in 2011, Liverpool completed the signing of 16-year-old Jordon Ibe from Wycombe Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

After making a handful of appearances from the substitutes’ bench, Ibe was handed his first Premier League start in 2013 against Queens Park Rangers.

The Englishman starred as he grabbed an assist in a 1-0 victory.

During the 14/15 season, Ibe starred during a Merseyside derby when he struck the woodwork with a shot and was also named man of the match.

In 2016, Ibe left Liverpool to join Bournemouth for a reported fee of £15 million.

After a tough spell with the Cherries, Ibe left to join Derby County but after making just one appearance, he spoke about his battle with depression and struggling with mental health issues.

Ibe moved to National League side Ebbsfleet United in October 2023 but after making just one appearance, he was released by the club at the age of 28.

Back in 2021, Ibe took to social media and revealed his battles with mental health issues.

He wrote: “I want to apologise to all my fans around the world. I find myself in a dark place, due to suffering with depression.

“It's no scheme for the media or to have my name in your mouths, I just find things hard truly. I appreciate all the love and messages from everyone. Times are hard in general due to this pandemic. I have the full support from my family and Derby County football club.”

Ibe continued: “I will fix myself and this situation, which I'm 100 per cent committed to. Not only for my family, close friends or my beauteous daughter but for me.”

Ebbsfleet United avoided relegation in the 23/24 season after drawing 0-0 with Boreham Wood.
