Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo brutally mock Jordan Pickford over nightmare moment vs Liverpool

Liverpool duo Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo have mocked Jordan Pickford over his howler against the Reds.

Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo have brutally mocked Jordan Pickford over his howler against Liverpool.

Back in January 2018, Everton took on Liverpool at Anfield in the third round of the FA Cup.

James Milner gave the Reds the lead after 35 minutes before the Toffees drew level in the second half.

Inside the last 10 minutes, Liverpool pushed for the go-ahead goal, which was eventually provided by debutant Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutch centre-back, who was starting his first Liverpool match after a £75 million move from Southampton got himself ahead of Pickford to head home a corner.

In a recent video posted on social media, Jones and Gakpo were reacting to Van Dijk’s goal.

Jones said: “Was it a header?”

Then Gakpo said: “What is the goalie doing mate?”

Jones then added: “What’s he doing? What is he doing?”

Pickford then made another howler against Liverpool a few months later, with Van Dijk involved again.

In December 2018, Liverpool and Everton were drawing 0-0 at Anfield but deep into added time, the Reds scored the winner.

Van Dijk’s miss-hit shot went looping towards goal, Pickford tried to catch the ball but made a meal of it.

The ball then bounced off the bar and into the path of Divock Origi, who headed in to make it 1-0.

In 2020, Pickford was again involved with Van Dijk as his rash challenge left the Dutchman with a season-ending ACL injury.

The Everton goalkeeper’s tackle went unpunished, then Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum said: “Of course we are upset. The way Pickford went in was completely stupid. I believe he did not want to injure Virgil the way he injured him.

“In my opinion, they take it too far in the games we play against them. Everyone wants to win the derby, sometimes you go a little over the top, but it was too much - not only his tackle, Richarlison on Thiago was also a nasty one. Accidents can happen in football. You can be unlucky and injure someone - but the way they were doing it was completely unacceptable.”
