Diogo Jota's wife calls Liverpool's loss to Tottenham 'rigged' and brands match officials 'clowns'

Diogo Jota's wife calls Liverpool's loss to Tottenham 'rigged' and brands match officials 'clowns'

She had her say on the incident.

Diogo Jota’s wife was deeply critical of the officiating in Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham.

On Sunday, Liverpool vowed to “explore a range of options available” after claiming sporting integrity was undermined after Luis Diaz’s goal was ruled out against Tottenham.

Diaz’s first-half strike was incorrectly disallowed for offside after the VAR mistakenly believed the on-field decision had been to award the goal, an incident refereeing body PGMOL described as a "significant human error".

The PGMOL added, immediately after Tottenham's 2-1 win: "This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention."

But another incident in the game has angered Jota’s wife, Rute Cardoso.

She was furious at referee Simon Hooper and the PGMOL for sending her husband, Jota, off for two yellow cards in two minutes against Spurs.

Cardoso was also angered by the red card shown to Curtis Jones alongside the Diaz incident.

She shared a video of Jota's first foul on Destiny Udogie accompanied by a clown emoji and caption "This was given as a yellow card."

She then re-posted the PGMOL's statement admitting their mistake, with the caption "rigged game" crossed out.

Jota was introduced as a half-time substitute by Jurgen Klopp but shown his first yellow card in the 68th minute of the game after tripping Udogie up from behind.

As inferred by Cardosa, replays appear to show Udogie tripped up himself after being pressured by the Portuguese forward.

Minutes later the 26-year-old was dispossessed by Udogie, and in an attempt to redeem himself, dangled his leg out and tripped up the full-back.

The trip prompted Simon Hooper to reach for his pocket and pull out a second yellow.
