Jamie Carragher names shock manager he'd have 'thoroughly considered' for Liverpool job ahead of Arne Slot

Jamie Carragher also revealed his concern about Arne Slot at Liverpool.

Jamie Carragher says he would have given 'more thorough consideration' to another coach over Arne Slot.

Liverpool are in talks over appointing Slot to succeed Jurgen Klopp, who will leave his post at the end of the season.

Speaking in a press conference, the Feyenoord boss dropped the biggest hint yet that he wants to move to the Anfield club.

The Dutchman appears set to replace Klopp in the summer but Carragher would have gone another route and named the manager that he would have considered.

In his column for The Telegraph, the Reds legend said he would have looked at Thomas Tuchel, having successfully taken on Pep Guardiola.

Tuchel will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season and has been linked with replacing Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

On Tuchel, Carragher said: "I would have given more thorough consideration to a coach like Thomas Tuchel who took on and beat Pep Guardiola in the ultimate test - a Champions League final.

"Tuchel followed Klopp at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund and did well. It has not worked out at Bayern Munich this season, but you only have to look at Carlo Ancelotti and Unai Emery to recognise how top coaches recover from setbacks."

Carragher added he would have preferred a 'proven winner' and revealed his concern about Slot.

"If another English club takes Tuchel, that would convince me they will significantly improve, but my sense is Liverpool don’t want a coach with a reputation for being fractious," he continued.

"I would prefer a proven winner who could be difficult to manage to a coach who might be easy to manage but still have

everything to prove.

"My overriding concern is this: does Slot move to England ready to take on Guardiola for the Premier League and Champions League?

"The new Liverpool manager must say from the outset he is here to win, not just compete."
