Team responds to reports that they've been in talks with Jurgen Klopp over becoming their new boss

The German Football Association have responded after reports linking Jurgen Klopp as the national team’s new manager.

Back in January, it was confirmed that after nearly nine years, Klopp will step down as Liverpool manager when the 23/24 season comes to a close.

At the time, the 56-year-old said: “I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take.

“It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.”

Since then, Klopp has been linked with the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and the German national team.

As reported by 90Min, the German FA’s managing director Andreas Rettig told Focus magazine: “There has been no contact. He has given himself a break. I don't know whether we should be giving him travel tips on how to enjoy his free time.

“He wants a break and that's why it is not an issue.”

It has been guaranteed that Klopp will win at least one trophy in his final season at Anfield after the Reds’ Carabao Cup final triumph against Chelsea at Wembley last month.

In addition, Liverpool are still in the race to win the Premier League as they are only second to Arsenal on goal difference.

Also, Klopp’s men are still in the FA Cup and have one foot in the last eight of the Europa League after beating Sparta Prague 5-1 in the first leg last week.

Speaking about Klopp’s decision to leave, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said: “I spoke with him and had the feeling he would be back later. He loves football. His passion is still there. He explained perfectly the reason why. So in the Premier League it is the last time [we meet], but maybe in the FA Cup we can find another. We will see.”
