Jurgen Klopp slams non-penalty decision as Liverpool draw with Man City

Jurgen Klopp was adamant that Liverpool should have been awarded a late penalty during their 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Liverpool and City played out a pulsating 1-1 draw at Anfield on Sunday, a result that leaves the Premier League title race finely poised with 10 games left to play.

City controlled the opening stages and took the lead when John Stones poked home from Kevin De Bruyne's smartly worked corner.

Liverpool looked a different side in the second half, and Alexis Mac Allister drew level from the penalty spot after Darwin Nunez was fouled by Ederson.

Liverpool dominated the rest of the game but couldn't find a second goal, although Klopp felt that his side should have had another opportunity from 12 yards.

Jeremy Doku caught Mac Allister with a high foot inside the penalty area in the 99th minute, but the Video Assistant Referee was happy to let Michael Oliver's on-field decision of 'no penalty' stand.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Liverpool boss Klopp shared his frustration with the decision.

"Isn't it [VAR] there for just making the right decision, and not thinking about how high the bar is to overturn and find the right decision?," Klopp said when put to him why VAR didn't recommend the referee change his decision.

"In this situation, in all other positions on the pitch, it is 100 per cent a foul. It's 100 per cent foul and it's a yellow card.

"He hit the ball, but he could only hit the ball because his foot is right there [so high]. If the ball is not there, he kills him.

"For all football people on the planet it's a penalty!"

Despite the frustrating end to the game, Klopp was delighted with his team's performance in his final Premier League clash with City.

"That's the best performance we've made in a second half against City.

"We have never dominated them as much, we've never made so many good decisions, we never were so brave.

"It's unbelievable, the game the boys played in teh second half was absolutely exceptional."
