Liverpool have £68m offer for potential Mo Salah replacement rejected

Liverpool have £68m offer for potential Mo Salah replacement rejected

Liverpool have reportedly seen their offer rejected.

Liverpool have had a major transfer blow as they've reportedly seen a £68 million offer rejected for a potential long-term Mo Salah replacement.

For the first time in what feels like an eternity, there is quite a lot of uncertainty surrounding Liverpool following the announcement that Jurgen Klopp would be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Liverpool's woes have been worsened as it has emerged that their reported number one managerial target Xabi Alonso would not be leaving Bayer Leverkusen.

There is also a significant amount of uncertainty surrounding some of Liverpool's key players, with the contracts of Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil Van Dijk all expiring in 2025.

Salah has been linked with a move away for a considerable time now, with Liverpool reportedly rejecting a big money offer from Saudi Arabia in the summer, but Klopp's exit has heightened rumours that the Egyptian will now make the switch.

At 31 years old, regardless of whether he stays at Anfield beyond the summer, Liverpool will have to attempt to replace the forward and according to Mundo Deportivo, they've identified Real Madrid's Rodrygo.

The reports claim that Liverpool has even made offers for the Brazilian, with their highest bid for Rodrygo reaching €80 million. However, this figure has been turned down by the Spanish club.

Real Madrid are likely to be looking for a much higher fee given Rodrygo's pedigree, with the report suggesting their asking price could be anything between €100 and €120 million.

The 23-year-old has been impressive so far this season for Madrid, scoring eight times and providing five assists in La Liga, and has also chipped in with five g/a in Madrid's Champions League campaign.

Rodrygo has also proven his worth against Premier League opposition in the past, which may quell any doubts Liverpool have over his ability to transition.

It was Manchester City who felt the wrath of the Brazilian in 2022 when he famously came off the bench to score two stoppage-time goals in Madrid's UCL winning campaign.
