Liverpool legend demands the club do NOT offer Mohamed Salah a new contract

A Liverpool legend has told the club they should NOT offer Mohamed Salah a new contract despite being in excellent form.

The Egypt international remains Jurgen Klopp's star forward, registering 10 goals in 12 games this term.

Salah was linked with a move away in the summer, with Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League showing serious interest.

He decided to stay at Anfield, but his contract expires in 2025. Teams in the Middle East remain interested in Salah as a high-priority target.

Liverpool icon Mark Lawrenson believes Klopp should think about moving Salah on, given his age. He'll be turning 32 next summer as he enters the final year of his deal.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Lawrenson said: "They should let him go and take the money. You can understand him going to Saudi Arabia because of his nationality.

"I imagine that when he signed his last contract, given everything happening with the Saudi league, he would have known. I’m sure the club would be happy to say, ‘thanks for your service to the club, we’ll get £100m and you get plenty of money and good luck’.

Lawrenson, who won five First Division titles and the European Cup in the 80s, believes Liverpool will already be looking at replacements.

He added: "And I think the plus side of this is that Liverpool will be looking around in the market already for a replacement. They’ll have a shortlist of strikers noted down, but they do have four already, which is good for when Salah leaves, they have backup.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if the manager and the player have already had a conversation about it, Jurgen Klopp would be asking for him to give everything till the end of the season and then he can go.”
