Ruben Amorim 'unlikely' to join Liverpool and is now in talks with another Premier League club instead

Ruben Amorim 'unlikely' to join Liverpool and is now in talks with another Premier League club instead

Ruben Amorim is unlikely to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Ruben Amorim has been tipped for a move to the Premier League and his next move has been made clearer.

Amorim earned praise for his work with Sporting Lisbon, winning the Portuguese league title in 2021, and has guided his side to the top of the table again - sitting 10 points clear of Benfica with just four games remaining in Liga Portugal.

The 39-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s most-sought after young coaches and has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League.

With Jurgen Klopp set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, the Portuguese was quickly earmarked as a favourite to replace the German after Xabi Alonso confirmed he would be staying at Bayer Leverkusen.

However, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, a move to Anfield now looks unlikely after another Premier League club made Amorim their no.1 target.

West Ham are believed to be lining up Amorim as a replacement for David Moyes, emerging as a leading target for the Hammers who are also interested in ex-Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui.

The report adds Amorim had been under consideration by Liverpool chiefs but it looks unlikely he will prove to be the preferred candidate to replace Klopp.

David Moyes has already overseen 12 league defeats this season including a crushing defeat against Crystal Palace on Sunday which the ex-Manchester United manager described as "so bad, I can hardly put it into words".

West Ham currently sit eight in the Premier League table and face Liverpool at the London Stadium on Saturday.

Liverpool's options to replace Klopp are becoming extremely limited with Alonso opting to stay in the Bundesliga as well as Julian Nagelsmann signing a contract extension as Germany manager.

Odds have been slashed on Feyenoord manager Arne Slot moving to Anfield while Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi remains in the mix.
