Shock reason why Brentford vs Man City won't be shown on TV will anger UK football fans

Manchester City and Brentford fans will not be happy about the reason why their sides' Premier League clash will not be on TV.

City will host Brentford at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday looking to return to winning ways after drawing 1-1 with Chelsea on Saturday evening.

Pep Guardiola's side were below par for much of that match, and their failure to win allowed Liverpool to move four points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

It was Brentford who Liverpool beat earlier on Saturday, and with just five points separating the Bees from the relegation zone, Thomas Frank will be hoping his side can leave Manchester with a shock result.

With implications at both ends of the table, it's the kind of match those not able to make it to the Etihad Stadium would have made sure to tune in to.

However, followers of City and Brentford in the UK will not be able to catch a single minute of the action as the match will not be broadcast on British TV.

None of Sky Sports, TNT Sports or Amazon Prime Video decided to pick the game for broadcast, as the fixture was originally scheduled during the period City were away on Club World Cup duty.

Many football fans in the UK spend upwards of £1,000 a year for subscriptions to all three Premier League broadcasters, making the decision to snub a match outside of the Saturday 3pm black-out all the more frustrating.

All going well, there shouldn't be any repeats of snubs like this; from 2025 onwards all matches that fall outside the Premier League’s 3pm blackout are expected to be televised.

City and Brentford met just over two weeks ago in the reverse fixture, with Guardiola's side winning 3-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Neal Maupay gave the hosts an unlikely lead after 20 minutes, but Phil Foden hit back with a hat-trick to secure the three points for the reigning champions.

Frank's side inflicted defeat on City the last time they visited the Etihad Stadium, with Ivan Toney scoring a 98th minute winner in a shock 2-1 victory in November 2022.

The England forward has scored four goals in five matches since returning from suspension last month.
