Erling Haaland fires brutal dig at Trent Alexander-Arnold in trophy row ahead of Liverpool vs Man City

Erling Haaland has hit back at Trent Alexander-Arnold after the Liverpool star's trophy claim about Man City.

Liverpool and City will go head-to-head in an eagerly-anticipated clash at Anfield on Sunday, one that could end up deciding the Premier League title race.

Liverpool are one point clear of City at the top of the table, with Jurgen Klopp's side looking to win the title for the first time since 2020.

With so much riding on the match, perhaps it was inevitable that mind games would crank up a notch or two in the days leading up to game day.

That's exactly what happened this week when Trent Alexander-Arnold claimed that success "means more" to Liverpool fans than City supporters, because their club doesn't have the same financial muscle.

The 25-year-old said: "How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we've done it, it probably means more to our fans."

Now, three days out from the huge clash, City striker Haaland has hit back at his opponent.

"If he wants to say that.. OK," Haaland told Sky Sports News when asked to comment on Alexander-Arnold's claim.

"I've been here one year and I won the treble. It was quite a nice feeling. I don't think he [Alexander-Arnold] knows exactly this feeling."

Haaland added: "They can talk as much as they want. He can talk as much as he wants. I don't know why he does that but I don't mind."

Haaland's response came after former City defender Joleon Lescott questioned the Liverpool star's comments.

Haaland enjoyed a sensational first season at City following his £51 million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

The Norwegian striker scored 36 league goals to break the Premier League single season goals record, and notched 52 goals in 53 games in all competitions.

Haaland finished the season with Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup winner's medals around his neck as City won a historic treble.
