Gary Neville brands the Premier League 'lawless' and 'frightened to death' of Man City in fiery rant

Gary Neville has branded the Premier League "lawless" and a "defunct organisation" who are "frightened to death" of Manchester City in a new rant.

Neville was speaking on the latest episode of the 'Stick to Football' podcast on Sky Bet's The Overlap following on from Everton's 10-point deduction for breaking profit and sustainability rules.

The Toffees have been hit with the hefty sanction, which leaves them on four points and in 19th place.

In a statement, Everton have signalled their intention to appeal and branded the punishment "a wholly disproportionate and unjust sporting sanction", with fans set to protest as a result.

Neville discussed the news alongside Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright, while also bringing in David Ornstein to further explain the situation.

The former Manchester United captain is never one to shy away from an opinion and he laid into the Premier League for being scared of City, who are facing 115 alleged charges relating to the period between 2009 to 2018.

At one point he said he was "furious" if he was an Everton and described the big six as "bullies" before launching a stinging attack on the league.

"The trust and faith has gone completely. The greed and selfishness is out of control. It's Lawless. The Premier League is a defunct organisation because they've basically got 20 clubs voting with self-interest and with not the greater game at heart.

"The Super League clubs tried in essence to destroy the whole of European football, they were fined £22 million - £3.5 million each - which is an absolute disgrace and a scandal for what they attempted to do.

"What we're talking about here is not football anymore. I love football but it's starting to eat itself from the inside out."

Neville has been vocal about the need for an independent regulator and again reiterated his take on how to improve things.

"The reason I've been calling for an independent regulator for years and getting on my bandwagon is because I think it's the only chance we've got.

"But we need independence, transparency, real time financial monitoring, proper rules on owners, proper sustainability rules that are actually equalised across the game."
