Liverpool and Man City fans all said the same thing about late controversial decision in Premier League clash

Neither Liverpool or Manchester City fans could believe the controversial decision that was made at their end of their Premier League clash.

Liverpool and City played out a pulsating 1-1 draw at Anfield on Sunday, a result that leaves the Premier League title race finely poised.

City took a first half lead through a well-worked corner routine, with John Stones stabbing home at the near post after Nathan Ake blocked Alexis Mac Allister to create space.

Liverpool were the much better side in the second half and it took Jurgen Klopp's side just five minutes to draw level.

City goalkeeper Ederson was sold short by an Ake back pass and proceeded to trip Darwin Nunez as both went for the ball, before Mac Allister converted the spot-kick.

Liverpool dominated the remainder of the game and spurned a number of half chances, before City almost snatched the win when substitute Jeremy Doku hit the post.

City looked rattled in the second half, summed up by Kevin De Bruyne's angry reaction to being substituted by Pep Guardiola.

Things could have gone much worse though, as Liverpool thought they should have been awarded another penalty deep into injury time.

In the 99th minute Doku caught Mac Allister in the rib cage with a high foot while attempting to make a clearance.

It seemed for all the world that referee Michael Oliver would award a penalty when he put his finger to his ear, but after a quick VAR check play resumed.

It's rare that City and Liverpool fans agree on something, but on this occasion, neither could quite believe that Doku wasn't penalised.

"That’s a stonewall penalty from Doku on Mac Allister, shocking, shocking, shocking call," one Liverpool fan fumed, while another posted on X: "Doku literally karate kicked Mac Allister in the chest in the 98th minute and it wasn’t given as a penalty??"

One City fan admitted: "Doku’s been saved there because it wasn’t given on-field. One of those where if he gives it, it doesn’t get overturned."

A perplexed supporter questioned: "What was going through Doku's mind there?"

The draw means Arsenal stay top of the table, level on 64 points with Liverpool and just ahead of City on 63.
