Man City furious at referee for crazy decision in 94th minute that stopped Jack Grealish from scoring winner

Manchester City were furious at referee Simon Hooper as Jack Grealish was denied an opportunity to score a dramatic winner in the 94th minute against Tottenham.

A topsy-turvy encounter at the Etihad may have been decided by a controversial refereeing decision deep in injury time, after City's Erling Haaland was fouled by Emerson Royal in the middle of the park.

With Hooper having initially played advantage, the Norwegian striker clipped a pass over Spurs' high-line to put an onside Grealish clean through on goal.

However, a sudden lapse in concentration saw Hooper u-turn and blow his whistle for the initial foul on Haaland.

Naturally, this sparked rage among the City players and fan-base, who felt they had needlessly been denied a clear goalscoring opportunity.

As the City faithful vented their Fury at Hooper, commentator Peter Drury said: "Jack Grealish was completely through on goal, staring Vicario in the eyes.... and then the whistle went."

He poetically added: "It's another diamond, a treat, a gem of a Premier League football match. There was no compromise, there was so much joy and so much mutual expression, understanding and appreciation.

"But in the end, in a row. It ends in boos."

Haaland furiously stormed off the pitch at the final whistle, clearly incensed by the decision.

On the matter, co-commentator Gary Neville said: "Haaland has lost his head. But l suspect that is partly frustration at having a pretty poor game in front of goal.

"City have conceded nine goals in four games. That will be a bigger concern at the end than the refereeing error when Grealish was through."

Son Heung-min opened the scoring for Spurs in the 6th minute, before scoring an own-goal to level proceedings three minutes later.

Phil Foden then put City back in front only for Giovani Lo Celso to equalise in the second half.

And in the 80th minute Grealish thought he had swiped in the winner, but Dejan Kulusevski netted a dramatic equaliser 10 minutes later to earn a precious point for Ange Postecoglou's side.
