Man Utd involved in £95m Victor Omishen transfer saga for two key reasons

Manchester United are pursuing the signing of Victor Osimhen for two key reasons, it has been claimed.

According to the Independent, United and Paris Saint-Germain are emerging as the two main contenders to land Victor Osimhen this summer.

The Nigerian, who also has attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, is said to have a €110million (£94million) release clause.

The publication claimed that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority stake at Old Trafford is already seeing a huge focus on recruitment.

United are allegedly looking to land more “intelligent and forward-thinking purchases” and Osimhen is viewed as a priority target given he is only 25 while he also has “tactical variety”.

PSG are meanwhile considering their options with Kylian Mbappe set to sign for Real Madrid in the summer.

Napoli striker Osimhen has already mentioned in the past that he would be open to a move to the Premier League.

"I don’t have a favourite Premier League team but I’ve two jerseys: Chelsea and Man United," Osimhen said on 'The Obi One podcast' alongside compatriot and former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.

“Many friends of mine are Chelsea fans, few are Man Utd fans. Premier League is the most appreciated league by every African player — it’s a huge league."

Osimhen has scored 11 goals and claimed three assists in his 16 Serie A games, while last term he was central to Napoli claiming their first Scudetto in 33 years.

Speaking last week at the at the Web Summit Qatar, Mikel claimed that Osimhen wants to sign for Chelsea.

He said: “I think there is genuine interest on both sides. I’m convinced that Victor wants to come to Chelsea, obviously he wants to follow in my footsteps and the Nigerian players who played for Chelsea, such as Victor Moses, Celestine Babayaro…

“He also has many clubs interested in him, such as PSG, Manchester United, but I am pushing, sending him messages, trying to make sure that there is only one club in his mind: the Blues!”
