Micah Richards says he's 'starting a petition' after Alejandro Garnacho's incredible goal for Man Utd

Micah Richards has claimed he's 'starting a petition' after Alejandro Garnacho's incredible bicycle kick for Manchester United.

Garnacho wrote himself into the Premier League history books on Sunday, scoring a breathtaking overhead kick during the Red Devils' 3-0 win over Everton.

The Argentinian's incredible strike came inside four minutes, after he connected perfectly with Diogo Dalot's floated cross, beating Jordan Pickford from 15 yards out.

Discussing the goal on The Rest is Football podcast, Gary Lineker couldn't help but remind Micah Richards of Wayne Rooney's infamous bicycle kick against Manchester City in 2011.

Richards, who was playing for City at the time, was stood very close to Rooney as he lashed the ball home with a spectacular strike.

"You were very close to someone who did something similar," Lineker quipped.

Richards laughed before adding: "Basically they were running the advert with Rooney's unbelievable strike for years.

"I'm hoping now that Garnacho scored this, they can change the advert. I'm starting a petition, to be honest."

Lineker then chimed in: "I think that might have usurped it. I think it was even better."

Opening up on Rooney's goal, Richards explained: "When the ball comes in, [Vincent] Kompany slipped a little bit, so I'm in two minds - do I throw myself at it?

"But as a defender, when you throw yourself at it, you're scared of them just having a little touch over you and then having time to finish it off.

"And then I've seen Rooney in a position and I say 'I'm going now', but it all happened in slow motion.

"He's lifted his legs up and I'm thinking in my head 'no chance he's scoring'... F**k me, what's he just done?!

Richards then also admitted he thought Garnacho's goal was better than Rooney's, stating: "The only thing I will say with the Rooney one - because I was close to it - it did look a bit like it came off his shin and that's me being really really picky.

"Whereas the Garnacho one looked like it was all technique off his foot, so I'm going with Garnacho's as better."
