Man Utd winger Antony mocked by fans for filming bizarre shirtless goal celebration at home

Man Utd winger Antony mocked by fans for filming bizarre shirtless goal celebration at home

Antony has been mocked by fans.

Manchester United winger Antony was mocked by fans after a bizarre video of the player celebrating a Sao Paulo goal topless was posted on his Instagram.

Antony signed for United last summer for £85million, emulating Erik ten Hag’s move from Ajax to Old Trafford.

However the Brazil international endured a difficult first campaign in English football. Antony has made 45 appearances for United in all competitions, netting eight goals and claiming three assists in that time.

However, the 23-year-old’s inconsistency and poor decision making has seen him become the subject of criticism among the United faithful.

And Antony’s actions are now being scrutinised by fans both on and off the pitch.

Indeed, a video has circulated online of the winger celebrating a Sao Paulo goal in a Copa de Brazil tie against Corinthians, which the former won 3-2 on aggregate.

As seen in the clip below, Antony, who rose through the Sao Paulo youth ranks before joining Ajax in 2020, is standing topless in his living room before the television, fist pumping in celebration.

Fans were quick to criticise the player on X, formerly known as Twitter.

One person said: “Meanwhile he is making us shed tears. He needs to go back to sapa lo.”

Another wrote: “Antony is finished at 23.”

A third person said: “Let's hope he scores soon too.”

In defence of the attacker, another person insisted: “Antony is a great player, but I forgot people on Twitter know more ball than Ten Hag.”

Last weekend United legend Gary Neville insisted that Antony would need to “explode” this season if the Old Trafford club want to have a chance of winning the title.

Speaking after United’s narrow 1-0 victory over Wolves, Neville added that United challenging for the Premier League title this season is ‘unrealistic.’

“There will be those that say Manchester United should be challenging for the title now,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“But realistically, looking at where Arsenal are and how they have recruited this summer, and looking how established Manchester City are, I think it would be unrealistic and harsh to say Manchester United should be competing for the title.

“For that to happen, Antony would have to explode this season, Marcus Rashford would have to hit the same numbers, and Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Andre Onana would have to hit the ground straight away.

“That is difficult; Hojlund is young, Onana has taken the most pressurised job in English football – Manchester United goalkeeper.

“I still think third and a trophy would be a success, but I understand where the pressure comes from after their spending under Erik ten Hag.”
