Edwin van der Sar's brutal response to Altay Bayindir saying he was his favourite goalkeeper

Altay Bayindir joined Manchester United during the summer transfer window

Edwin van der Sar delivered a brutal response to Altay Bayindir saying he was his favourite goalkeeper.

During the summer transfer window, Manchester United parted ways with David de Gea and Dean Henderson.

In turn, Erik ten Hag brought in Andre Onana and Bayindir to strengthen his goalkeeping department.

So far this season, Onana has been the undisputed number one despite some questionable performances.

Turkish international Bayindir is yet to appear in a United shirt.

In a recent interview with the club, Bayindir was asked to name his favourite goalkeeper. You can watch the footage below.

The 25-year-old said: “My favourite goalkeeper for Manchester United when I was younger, I watched a lot of games of Manchester United, and my favourite goalkeeper, I say this and Edwin van der Sar is a legend, I know him.”

After the interview was posted on United’s official social media account, Van der Sar delivered a brutal response.

The Dutch legend wrote: “Hi Altay, will see you soon in Manchester and we will have a chat about goalkeeping but my favourite is still Andre as you will know!”

Despite not playing a single minute of football for United, Bayindir could be called upon in the new year due to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Onana is expected to be included in Cameroon’s squad after coming out of international retirement in September.

However, it has been reported that Onana has yet to decide whether he will go to AFCON or not. The tournament is set to take place across January and February.

Speaking about Bayindir, United boss Ten Hag said: “He makes a very good impression in training, he's really developing, progressing. So we're very happy with that and we are convinced we have the two right goalkeepers in our squad to do the job for us.”

After the latest international break, United will return to Premier League action with a tough away clash at Goodison Park against Everton.
