Erik ten Hag hits out at Premier League referees over 'unfair' treatment of Man Utd star

Ten Hag was furious at full-time.

Erik ten Hag has hit out at Premier League referees over the treatment of one of his Manchester United players.

United moved within five points of the top four on Sunday afternoon following a 2-1 win over Luton Town.

Rasmus Hojlund's two goals in the opening seven minutes were enough for the Red Devils, despite Carlton Morris halving the deficit shortly after.

Ten Hag wasn't pleased with several decisions which went against his side at Kenilworth Road.

Casemiro received a booking for a foul on Amari'i Bell before evading a second caution after a challenge on Ross Barkley went unpunished.

The 31-year-old was replaced by Scott McTominay at half-time, with Ten Hag admitting his midfielder should've been sent off.

He unloaded on referee David Coote for putting Casemiro in that position due to his unfair yellow card earlier in the contest.

"I don't think it's a booking, the first one," Ten Hag admitted. "Again, with Casemiro, it’s very harsh to concede the first booking and I don't understand why. And then of course, in the second, that was a booking. Very clear.

"But I think also the referee knows what's going on with the first one. And I think the refereeing in general, it can't be all the time Casemiro, by his first tackle, they book him."

Casemiro has been sent off three times for United since arriving from Real Madrid in 2022.

That's one more red card than he received during his seven-year spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Luton manager Rob Edwards expressed his frustration at Casemiro being allowed to get away with two challenges in quick succession.

He told beIN Sports: "I think the fact that he came off at half-time maybe tells you a little bit of that story.

"So, yeah, I think maybe he got away with one there."

"It's tough. We need decisions to go our way, but I'm not one to complain about things. In the end, I think a lot of the game is in our control."

United are now sixth in the Premier League table after winning five games in a row in all competitions for the first time since January 2023.

They return to action against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
