Erik ten Hag has baffled everyone with his post-match interview after West Ham defeat

Erik ten Hag has baffled everyone with his post-match interview after West Ham defeat

It's a bold claim.

Erik ten Hag baffled everyone with his comments after Manchester United’s West Ham defeat.

United fell to a 2-0 defeat to West Ham on Saturday, as goals from Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus condemned Ten Hag’s men to their eighth Premier League loss of the season.

The result sees West Ham move up to sixth place in the Premier League and United fall to eighth.

It was another dismal display for the Old Trafford club, who have now won just one of their last five Premier League games and failed to score in over six hours of football for the first time since November 1992 under Alex Ferguson.

Moreover, the Old Trafford club have now lost 13 games in all competitions this term. The last time they lost more matches before Christmas was back in the 1930/31 campaign (16) when they ultimately finished bottom of the league.

Nevertheless, after the game, Ten Hag was positive about his team’s performance, insisting that his side had played well and controlled the game.

When beIN Sport asked his thoughts on the encounter Ten Hag said: “It was a solid performance. We didn’t net but I think we controlled the game.

“You win the game by scoring the goal.”

Seemingly quite surprised by Ten Hag’s answer, the interviewer said: “You think that was a solid performance?”

The Dutchman replied: “Yes. I think we were totally in control in and out of possession. I think we gave the opponent nothing until the 72nd minute - one moment where we switched off.”

United have now recorded more defeats this season than in all of their 62 competitive games from the last campaign.

And it could get worse, with the Red Devils hosting the in-form Aston Villa on Boxing Day before travelling to Nuno Espirito Santo’s Nottingham Forest on December 30.
