Man Utd target Federico Chiesa 'jealous' of Erik ten Hag's side and other Champions League teams

Man Utd target Federico Chiesa 'jealous' of Erik ten Hag's side and other Champions League teams

Juventus are banned from European competition this season.

Manchester United target Federico Chiesa has suggested he's jealous of Erik ten Hag's side and other teams that are competing in the Champions League.

United were beaten 3-2 by Turkish club Galatasaray on Tuesday night, their sixth defeat of the season in all competitions.

The Red Devils are currently 10th in the Premier League and pressure is mounting on Ten Hag after their disappointing start to the campaign.

The Dutchman has spent more than £400m on new signings since arriving at Old Trafford in 2022 and the club may need to sell players before signing any further reinforcements in January.

One player who has been linked with a move to United is Juventus winger Chiesa.

The Italy international is seen as a potential replacement for Jadon Sancho, but Liverpool and Newcastle are also said to be interested in the 25-year-old.

Juventus are currently fourth in Serie A and are barred from all European competition this season as punishment for financial irregularities.

Forza Juventus (via Tuttosport) have reported that Chiesa says he is 'jealous' of teams competing in the Champions League, including AC Milan – who took Juventus' spot.

"What if I watch the Champions League matches? Eh... I look at them, I look at them," Chiesa said.

"And I'm even a little bit annoyed, but only because we deserved that stage and it was taken away from us.

"Milan finished fifth and are now competing in the Champions League only because it was taken away from us."

Chiesa also commented on the speculation surrounding his future and suggestions that his ability to speak English may increase his chances of a move to the Premier League.

"The only voice I heard in the summer, to be honest, was precisely that of director [Cristiano] Giuntoli, with whom we agreed that the priority was to prepare the new season as best as possible," added Chiesa.

"At most, English helps me to communicate fluently with [Weston] McKennie and [Timothy] Weah in the locker room."
