Gary Neville names the two players from Man Utd's iconic Treble-winning side he'd most want in current team

Gary Neville believes two players from Manchester United's 1998/1999 side would have a huge impact on the current team.

Gary Neville has picked the two players from Manchester United's Treble-winning side who he believes would have the biggest impact on the current side.

The Red Devils find themselves in eighth position in the Premier League after the shambolic 4-0 trouncing at the hands of Crystal Palace on Monday night.

It was a 13th defeat in the league for United, who may have to settle for the Europa Conference League next season.

United are crying out for inspiration; the kind of players and characters who delivered the stunning treble win in 1999.

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, United won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in a stunning 10-day period.

The feat had never been done before in English football until Manchester City's success last season.

And former captain Neville did not hesitate when asked which two players from 1999 would he put in today's team.

"Roy Keane and Jaap Stam," Neville told SPORTbible at a red carpet event for the premiere of the Amazon Prime '99' documentary.

"Just because of what today's team needs I'd go Roy Keane and Jaap Stam. They're pretty good players!"

Long-time teammate Nicky Butt also offered the same response, commenting: "I'd probably say me because I'd like to play football again. It would probably be Roy and Jaap I'd say, just for character.

"They're unbelievable players but I think what we lack at Man United right now is pure character and leaders and I think that's what them two bring."

Jesper Blomqvist, who played 25 times in the 1998/1999 campaign and started in the Champions League final, also name-dropped the aforementioned duo but also selected the devastating Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole double-act.

"[Dwight] Yorke and [Andy] Cole up front together would have been a fantastic addition, with a lot of goals in them and a lot of work as well.

"And Jaap Stam as well. And Roy Keane!"
