Bruno Fernandes has apologised to Fantasy Premier League managers and his own family

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has apologised to Fantasy Premier League managers after giving away a penalty to Marcus Rashford.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has apologised to Fantasy Premier League managers for his controversial spot-kick decision against Everton.

United ran out 3-0 winners against Everton at Goodison Park last Sunday with a stunning overhead kick from Alejandro Garnacho followed by a Marcus Rashford penalty and an Anthony Martial goal.

The victory saw the Red Devils keep a clean sheet, their 500th in Premier League history, and pick up their third league win in a row.

That run was halted against Newcastle last night, but it's the penalty decision in the Everton game that got people talking.

United's skipper Fernandes is the club's designated penalty taker, with the Portuguese midfielder only missing three of his sixteen Premier League penalties since joining the club back in 2020.

His record has led to many FPL managers putting him in their team in the hope that he will score regularly.

So his decision to allow Rashford to take the spot-kick against Everton last weekend has annoyed many, including Fernandes' own brother.

"He told me today, he just texted me to say, 'Thank you for giving the penalty to Rashy in the week I put you in my team," Fernandes told the Man United website.

"I said to him, 'You should have me in your team every week. That's your problem!

"I said to him, and I say to all the Fantasy League managers, that I apologise to them. I'm going to still score some goal for them in the future."

The decision will have cost many fantasy players with Bruno in their team five points. But the midfielder has already accumulated 61 points this season which is more than any other United player.

He is also owned by 14.6 per cent of squads which means he is the second most selected Red Devils player behind goalkeeper Andre Onana.

United have only been awarded two penalties in the league this season so many FPL players will be hoping they get more and more importantly that Fernandes takes them.
