Erik ten Hag's 'weak mentality' after defeat to Newcastle has worried Man Utd supporters

Erik ten Hag's 'weak mentality' after defeat to Newcastle has worried Man Utd supporters

United are currently seventh in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag's comments following Manchester United's 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United have worried supporters.

Anthony Gordon's second Premier League goal in as many games was enough to condemn United to their sixth defeat of the season.

The Magpies were on top throughout inside a raucous St. James' Park, limiting the Red Devils to just one shot on target.

It's an impressive feat for Eddie Howe's side, who played 90 minutes against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

United, meanwhile, made four changes from a 3-3 draw with Galatasaray and looked miles off the pace.

Ten Hag spoke to TNT Sports post-match and his assessment of United's performance hasn't gone down well.

He said: "We had a tough first half and said at half-time we were pleased to be in the game.

"We had a good comeback in the last part of the game. We will talk tomorrow with the team about it. We go back, we will talk about this and move to Wednesday."

United did think they'd grabbed an equaliser late on through substitute Antony.

However, the ball struck Harry Maguire who was stood in an offside position and it didn't count.

Ten Hag continued: "As I said, I will talk with my team. We had some chances. We scored a goal, but it was offside so it could have been a draw."

The comments have gone viral on social media and pressure is continuing to mount on Ten Hag.

One person said: "Embarrassing. This sums up the club right now."

Another commented: "Just sack him now and try to save the season."

Someone put: "It's done for me. I've lost all faith in him."

While a fourth added: "That last line is embarrassing."

In the first half, Ten Hag was spotted arguing with Anthony Martial and the pair 'waved their arms' at one another.

Martial was replaced in the second half by Rasmus Hojlund as the away side looked to level.

United return to action against Chelsea on Wednesday evening.
