Antony available for Man Utd selection as club issue statement amid domestic abuse allegations

Antony is set to return.

Manchester United have confirmed that Antony is returning to training with the club in an official statement.

Antony was allowed to have a 'period of absence', on full pay, from United in order to address allegations of domestic abuse made by his ex-partner, which he has repeatedly denied.

As a result, the Brazilian winger has not been available to play for United since featuring in the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal on September 3.

He was also removed from the Brazil squad due to the allegations made against him.

Now, United have given an update on the player's situation, and confirmed he is returning to training at Carrington.

Man Utd give Antony update

In an official club statement, United have said: "Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has co-operated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so.

"As Antony's employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed. This case will be kept under review pending further developments in the case.

"As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse."

The 23-year-old could, therefore, be available to face Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday. However, given his lack of match fitness in recent weeks, Erik ten Hag may choose to involve him from the bench, or take a slightly longer-term approach to involving him back with the matchday squad.

Antony has made four Premier League appearances this season, but is yet to score or assist a goal for United so far.

Ten Hag has yet to address Antony's situation, but is set to host his pre-match press conference later today.
