Harry Maguire details incredible impact Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir David Brailsford have already had at Man Utd

Harry Maguire says his Manchester United teammates wanted to “fight for the badge" after a meeting with Sir David Brailsford.

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has opened up on the immediate impact of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford as the INEOS era begins.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that both the Premier League and FA have approved Sir Jim Ratcliffe's purchase of a 25 per cent stake in Manchester United.

The deal cannot be completed until the tender offer for Class A shares is finalised but this latest update surrounding approval from the previously mentioned is significant.

Harry Maguire is certainly impressed by Ratcliffe and the impact he's made in such a short space of time.

“There’s a positive energy around the place, a good intensity,” Maguire told Sky Sports News. “Ineos have come in, Sir Jim, and I’m sure he’s going to have a big positive effect on this club.

“As a player, I want this club to be successful and I’m sure he’s going to play a big part in getting this club back to where it should be."

Maguire added: “It’s been a tough few years because the expectation is to challenge for the biggest trophies and at the top of the Premier League.

“We haven’t done that enough during the last 10 years and I’m sure he’s got a vision in what he sees and wants from this club. I’m sure he’ll move it in the right direction.”

Maguire, who has enjoyed somewhat of a revival in recent weeks, also heaped praise on Sir Dave Brailsford, the head of sport at INEOS group.

The former Performance Director of British Cycling has already held meetings with players, coaching staff and other figures at the club, according to a report from The i.

“He has already started with his marginal gains stuff,” an insider told the publication.

“These motivational speeches are what he does best. Every meeting can become like a leadership seminar with him, but he believes that is how to get things moving in the right direction.”

And it appears Brailsford's words had a lasting impact on the squad. During the interview with Sky Sports, Maguire was asked about the squad being "addressed" by Brailsford.

“The lads came out of the meeting really impressed by how he [Brailsford] spoke," he said. "It gave us great motivation for everyone in the room to want to fight for the badge and for this club, and to stay on this journey with everybody involved.

“It’s exciting times for that club because he’s brought that fresh energy. He’ll move the club in the right direction.”

Brailsford, who will help run the football operations at Old Trafford, has already persuaded Omar Berrada to leave rivals Manchester City and become their chief executive.

United and Newcastle are also expected to reach an agreement over Dan Ashworth next week, according to The Mail, after the Reds made him their top target for the sporting director job.
