Man Utd player ratings: Mason Mount makes his debut, Kobbie Mainoo impresses and Noam Emeran stars vs Leeds

Manchester United beat Leeds 2-0 in Oslo, Norway, in their first friendly of pre-season.

Just 39 days after the FA Cup final, United kicked off their pre-season with a victory, courtesy of goals from youngsters Noam Emeran and Joe Hugill.

United boss Erik ten Hag named an unfamiliar line-up for the match at the Ullevaal Stadion with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes yet to return from their summer break.

Nevertheless, Mason Mount was the name on United’s fans’ lips at the kick-off, with the England international being handed his debut following a £55m move from Chelsea. Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez also returned to action after fracturing his metatarsal at the end of last season.

Here's how United fared in the pre-season game.

Man Utd first-half ratings:

Heaton - 6

Tom Heaton was between the sticks for the first half against Leeds upon the departure of David De Gea. While Leeds opened up United a few times the veteran keeper had little to do other than a smart save late on.

Wan-Bissaka - 5

It was a typical Aaron Wan-Bissaka display, with the full-back having appeared competent on the ball and delivering a few trade-mark slide tackles throughout the first period. However, Leeds looked dangerous on the counter-attack, often marauding down the 25-year-old’s side.

Varane - 5

Raphael Varane, who captained United for the first half in the absence of Harry Maguire, had a steady if unspectacular 45 minutes. He was even caught on the ball for a Leeds opportunity.

Martinez - 6

Martinez was back in a United shirt after injury ended his campaign prematurely last season. He had a few moments where he displayed his composure on the ball and was solid defensively.

Fernandez - 5

It was a steady outing for the United youngster, though he missed a glaring opportunity to score in the first half, mistiming his header.

Mainoo - 7

Kobbie Mainoo effortlessly slotted into midfield filling in for five-time Champions League winner Casemiro. He appeared relaxed in possession, and was solid defensively, other than one moment he made a mistake that allowed Leeds to break.

Mount - 6

Donning the famous No.7 shirt, Mount made his United debut after completing a £60million move from Chelsea. It was a decent first outing though the England international faded as the half wore on. Mount did almost opened the scoring with an audacious chip from distance that landed on top of the net, while he tried his best to link up the play.

Hannibal - 8

Only a brilliant save from Kristoffer Klaesson denied Hannibal the opener, while minutes later he ran the length of the field to put in a goal-saving tackle. The youngster also set up Sancho for a wasted opportunity late in the half.

Amad - 7

Amad Diallo looked dangerous throughout the half, setting up Hannibal for a big chance early on. However, he lacked composure when given the chance to score later on, firing over the bar.

Sancho - 4

Jadon Sancho showed some nice touches at times, only to stumble on the ball when presented with an opportunity to score. He was generally outshone by his younger United colleagues.

Forson - 5

The 18-year-old, who claimed eight goals in the PL2, had a few decent touches but failed to make an impact on the game.

Man Utd second-half ratings

Kovar - 6

Matej Kovar very comfortable in possession and commanded his box well, though admittedly didn't have too much to do. Nevertheless, Ten Hag will be impressed by the young keeper.

Jurado - 5

The 19-year-old Spaniard was less involved than some of his colleagues, but displayed decent composure when passing out from the back.

Bennett - 7

Looked good on the ball, and composed when he needed to make a tackle. Had Patrick Bamford in his pocket.

Fish - 7

Like his centre-back partner, Will Fish managed Bamford well, with the one-cap England international barely getting a kick. The 20-year-old, who is set to return to Hibernian for the season, also displayed an impressive range of passing.

Williams - 6

The most senior player for United in the second half and took on the responsibility well. Brandon Williams looked assured at left back and at one point, tried an audacious Modric-esque pass with the outside of his boot that almost sliced open the Leeds defence.

Gore - 5

A highly rated member of United's youth side, who helped provide an energetic buzz in the second half, but with perhaps less of a cutting edge that his colleagues. Having won under-21 player of the year United's fans may have expected more from him.

Hansen-Aaroen - 7

Provided a brilliant assist for United's opener, slicing open the Leeds defence with a through ball. The Norwegian also displayed a brilliant touch throughout and the ability to glide past opposition players. He looks to have a bright future.

Savage - 6

Captained United for the second half and looked good, linking up the play well and displaying a good range of passing. An impressive, yet low-key performance.

Shoretire - 6

Shola Shoretire is clearly a very technically gifted footballer. He was very silky on the ball but also a menace at times off it.

Emeran - 8

The pick of the bunch. Emeran claimed a brilliant goal, opening up his body and passing the ball beyond the keeper a la Thierry Henry. The attacker then provided the assist for Hugill's goal, and caused problems down the right throughout.

Hugill - 7

Hugill had half a chance to score, only for his first touch to let him down and present the ball to the onrushing keeper. He made up for it 20 minutes later, however, cooly directed a Emeran pass first time into the bottom corner. A very good finish.
