Sky Sports reporter reveals what he's heard about Sofyan Amrabat and Man Utd

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has provided an important update on Sofyan Amrabat's potential move to Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag is prioritising signing a striker upon the arrivals of Mason Mount and Andre Onana this summer, who cost the club a combined fee of £107 million.

Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund has emerged as the club's No. 1 target, having submitted an opening bid to the Serie A side earlier on Wednesday worth a reported £51 million.

Meanwhile, United are said to be keen on signing a second midfielder this summer, with Fiorentina midfielder Amrabat heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, United chiefs are ready to formalise an offer for Amrabat of around €25million (£21.4million).

However, Sky Sports journalist Sheth is less convinced that the club will launch a bid until others have left the club. Indeed, Ten Hag is reportedly plotting significant outgoings if they are to land the 26-year-old.

And Sheth has picked out three players who could leave the club to make way for the Morocco international this summer.

"I think that [United's midfield] is an area they do want to strengthen, but it's likely that there might have to be departures in that area to recoup some money," Sheth told Sky Sports on Wednesday (quotes via Football Daily).

"I think if Manchester United are to go in the market to bring in another midfielder, maybe one of Fred, Donny van de Beek or maybe even Scott McTominay would have to depart the club for good money."

Sheth also cnfirmed that United were in talks with Fiorentina over Amrabat's signature, but insisted Ten Hag needed to free up his transfer budget as he wrestles with the constraints placed upon him by Financial Fair Play.

"What we do know is Manchester United have held early talks with Fiorentina over their midfielder Sofyan Amrabat," he added. "It's unlikely they will push really hard for that signing unless there is a departure in that area."
