Mark Goldbridge makes bold Andre Onana claim as Man Utd target compared to other Premier League goalkeepers

Mark Goldbridge makes bold Andre Onana claim as Man Utd target compared to other Premier League goalkeepers

It's a bold claim.

Manchester United YouTuber Mark Goldbridge made a bold claim about incoming goalkeeper Andre Onana.

On Tuesday it emerged that United had agreed a £47.2million deal for Inter goalkeeper Onana.

The Premier League giants will pay an initial £43.8million upfront for the Cameroonian, with the additional £3.4million in add-ons.

United hope the shot-stopper will be able to join his new team-mates for the club’s tour of the United States, though first they must arrange the 27-year-old a visa.

Onana, who previously worked under Erik ten Hag at Ajax, will join on a five-year contract, with the option of a further year.

United’s move for Onana was prompted by David de Gea’s decision to turn down a new contract offer. The Spaniard was United's first-choice keeper for the past 12 years, making 545 appearances after joining the club under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Onana among best Premier League goalkeepers?

Prominent United fan Goldbridge ranked Onana as the “first or second” best goalkeeper in the Premier League, should he complete his move to Old Trafford.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Goldbridge said: “I personally think, Man Utd are about to sign Onana. Where does he rank in Premier League goalkeepers coming straight in?

“This is not a goalkeeper that’s got anything to prove. He’s just played in the Champions League final. Personally, I would probably put him first or second."

He later added: “The Onana I saw in the Champions League final - and it was the Champions League final - was absolutely incredible and I think that he will offer a lot to Manchester United and this Premier League.

“I’m a big fan of Alisson [Becker]. I think Alisson is a top goalkeeper, [Aaron] Ramsdale had a good season.

“But Onana comes in I put him straight away as the second or first-best goalkeeper in the league when he signs.”
