Champions League giants stunned by how much Man Utd want for Mason Greenwood

Champions League giants stunned by how much Man Utd want for Mason Greenwood

Man Utd will look to sell Greenwood this summer.

A Champions League side keen on signing Mason Greenwood have been left stunned by Manchester United's asking price.

As the season enters the final stretch and the summer transfer windows edges closer, the question of what to do with Mason Greenwood is starting to loom over Manchester United.

The 22-year-old attacker has spent the season on loan at La Liga side Getafe, where his impressive performances have put him on the radar of clubs across Europe.

Greenwood was suspended by United following his arrest in January 2022, and he was subsequently charged with assault, attempted rape and coercive behaviour.

The charges against Greenwood were dropped last year, but following United's own investigation, it was decided that he should spend the current campaign away from Old Trafford.

Getafe are keen to keep hold of the man who has scored six goals and set up five more in La Liga this season, but they are unlikely to be able to afford him.

If it is decided that Greenwood has no future at Old Trafford, then the Premier League side would prefer to sell him this summer rather than loan him again as his contract is set to expire in 2024.

Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona have been heavily linked with the young attacker, but in recent weeks Atletico Madrid emerged as the favourite to sign him.

Previous reports claimed that United will ask for a fee of around £34 million, but according to Mundo Deportivo, the Red Devils have now upped their asking price to £51.3m.

According to the Spanish publication, Atletico have "been left shocked" by United's demand, and are unlikely to pay what they consider to be an "outrageous figure."

That kind of fee would almost certainly rule Barcelona and Juventus out of the running, so it will be interesting to see if United decide to lower their asking price or even keep Greenwood.
