Roy Keane singles out Man Utd player who 'frightens his teammates to death' during matches

Roy Keane singles out Man Utd player who 'frightens his teammates to death' during matches

Roy Keane has raised his concerns over one Manchester United player ahead of Erik ten Hag's trip to Manchester City this weekend.

Roy Keane has singled out the one player he hasn't been impressed with for Manchester United this season on the most recent 'Stick to Football' podcast.

United just about advanced to the quarter-finals thanks to a controversial late winner from Casemiro against Nottingham Forest.

VAR extensively reviewed the goal before awarding it due to concerns about potential offside interference by Raphael Varane, similar to Virgil Van Dijk's disallowed goal in the Carabao Cup final last week.

However, this time VAR determined that there was no blocking by Varane, leading to the goal being allowed.

Harry Maguire missed the game through injury, but despite some promising form this season Roy Keane is still not convinced the England international is at the correct level for United.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet Keane said: "They [Manchester United] aren’t pressing up. I don’t want to be just pinning it on [Harry] Maguire, but there’s always that worry with Man United coming up and squeezing the pitch like all the other top teams are doing."

High pressing has become the norm for the top teams, and with Maguire having a track record of being caught out higher up the pitch the United legend might have a point.

“There’s that worry with him all the time – that’s where there is gaps. They are frightened to death to come all the way up because they’re thinking ‘anything over the top, he’d be in trouble’," Keane continued.

Maguire has started 13 games for United and scored one goal in the Premier League this season after initially being left completely out of the fold by Erik ten Hag.

The 30-year-old impressed so much when he was eventually given his opportunity that he received the 'Premier League Player of the Month' award for November, the only defender to get the award this season.
